The doctorate (doctorat in French) or the Doctor  of Philosophy (PhD) represents the highest academic qualification in the Moroccan education system.

^{What types of doctorate are there?}

A system of  single doctorate has been adopted in Morocco in [1997].

However,  three sub-categories of doctorate can be identified: 1.PhD 2.Vocational PhD and 3.Honorary PhD

1. PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)

A postgraduate degree which gives the holder the qualification to enter the job market as a professor, researcher, or scientist.

[3 years] is the (minimum ) duration of doctoral studies.

_{What are the access requirements?}

To hold a Master’s degree, a professional Master’s or a degree of equivalent status.

Establish contact with the CEDoc (Center for PhD studies) to propose a topic or consult the list of axes offered by the center.

After admission by the CEDoc, the PhD student then signs the theses charter.

The PhD student must publish at least one research paper in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

A newly introduced condition is the obligation to do research in English, except within the various departments of languages.

What are the axes of research?

Axes of research are offered by the CEDoc^* within a given institution.

2. Vocational PhD

3. Honorary doctorate

An honorary PhD (honoris causa) is conferred on an individual in recognition of their exceptional contribution and achievements in a given field, without having attended the institution in question and without having carried out research under the usual conditions.

What is the thesis defense procedure?

After a thesis defense before a jury and deliberation by the latter a decision is issued.

What are the possible outcomes?

After deliberation, the jury may decide that thesis defense was successful or declare it postponed.

What are the possible honors?

After a successful viva the jury issues a report on which might figure one of the following distinctions: honors and first class honors
