Hello everybody,
A technical issue with Google Drive.
The majority of you (so far) have sent their 5-minute video files via Google Drive and have all been well received.
Ecxept that some of you have forgotten to change the sharing options, which meant that I was not able to access the videos.
Here is what you need to do: (1) Go to your Google Drive, (2) Right click on the video file (3) click on “share” and change “Only people added can view” to “Anyone with the link”.
The deadline has been extended to next Sunday February 28, 2021
Get it over with as soon as you possibly can!

Due to the covid 19 situation, it has now been officially decided that the Public Speaking exam take place online in the form of a short video presentation.
How do I make the video?
Use your iPhone, pc, mac, camera or any other device to record a 5 minute video presentation
What do I put in the video?
Introduce yourself (Full Name and group number).
Choose a topic (any topic) and speak for five minutes (maximum!).
How do I send the short video?
Upload your 5 minute video to one of the video sharing platforms available (GOOGLE DRIVE is the easiest). Copy the sharing link and send it to me inside an email.
Important: Before submitting your short video, write your full name and group number on the video file. Files that do not clearly include your full name and group number will not be processed.
How do I check that the video has been well received?
Check the the Public Speaking List (above) to check your submission status (similar to your assignments)
Note: The public Speaking assignments you have submitted before will also count towards the final grade.

What is public speaking?
“Public Speaking”, as the term indicates, is all about speaking in public. In other words, talking (about a given topic) in front of an individual listener or a group of listeners. How effective is your speech will depend on how well you use your public speaking skills: (1) Linguistic skills: clarity, voice projection, tone, intonation; (2) body language: Appearance (dress properly and be/look confident), eye contact, posture, movement; and (3) Visual aids: pictures, slides, maps, graphs, etc.
What will the exam be like?
The exam will be oral. You will speak in front of a group of classmates (No more than 10 students at a time). You will be presented with a stack of cards each of which holds a given topic. Once you choose a topic, you get 5 minutes to prepare (impromptu speech). Every body stays in the exam room until the whole group have taken turns to speak.
N.B. Remember we are talking about exams under normal condtions. You never know what the covid situation will impose on us!
When will the exam take place?
As soon as I receive the final exam schedule, I will make sure it is published on the English Studies page. However, the Ibn Zohr University website remains the official source of such information.
How do I revise?
All the materials you need are published under PUBLIC SPEAKING heading on the English Studies. One the best ways to learn public speaking is to watch professional speakers. Try and watch as many videos of speeches as you can. A good place to start looking is the TED talks website. Watch your own performance by speaking in front of a mirror or camera. You can also practice by getting a group of friends or family to act as a makeshift audience.
Public speaking skills are worthless unless you have “general knowldge” (knowing something about everything and being abreast of new developments and current affairs). I advise you to read as much as you can (outside the curriculum) about different topics (education, illiteracy, divorce, employment, racism, pizza, bees, etc).

Thank you for your query. The form the Public Speaking final exam takes will depend on exactly those “chaotic and sensitive times” you mentioned in your e-mail. As soon as we hear from our administrators as to what to do in this regard, I will let you know.
We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it!
As for now, we are trying to deliver the course as best we can given the many challeges we face: The sheer numbers of students, the lack of equipment in students’ homes, the lack of internet in many areas, to mention but a few.

With due respect, I would merely be enquiring about the form of the final examination regarding the module of Public Speaking. In which form it might be in? A video oral presentation or it could be written?

As requested by many of your classmates (Citing the special conditions we are going through), the deadline for submission of the Public Speaking assignments has been extended to January 20th, 2021.

I did assignments 1,2 and 3 and sent them to info@moroccodemia.com. Is that the right email ? Or should we use the “Paper Submission Form” ? Or is that reserved for End-of-term papers ? I’m somewhat confused regarding this.
